Senior Backend Engineer (Python/GCP) Job Type: Contract Contract Duration: 6 Months Pay Rate: $70-$90/hour Location: Hybrid, 1 day onsite, Downtown Toronto, ON Your New Company Our client is undertaking a significant AI and digital innovation initiative focused on building next-generation applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The team is developing scalable, cloud-native solutions and is seeking experienced Backend Engineers to support the delivery of production-grade systems in a fast-paced environment. Your New Role As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs that support modern cloud-based applications. Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will contribute to the development of cloud-native solutions, database integrations, and highly available backend systems deployed on GCP. Key responsibilities include: Design and develop scalable backend services and RESTful APIs Build and maintain cloud-native applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Develop and optimize database solutions and integrations Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on solution design and delivery Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making Ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and security of production systems Contribute to code reviews and engineering best practices What You'll Need to Succeed Strong experience developing scalable backend applications and services Hands-on Python development experience Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Experience designing and developing APIs and microservices Strong understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, agile environment Excellent communication and collaboration skills Nice to Have: Experience supporting AI, Generative AI, or intelligent application initiatives Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes Exposure to event-driven architectures and distributed systems Experience supporting enterprise-scale production applications What You'll Get in Return You will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals in a dynamic and innovative environment.
