About Gale Gale helps American businesses get work authorization for their employees. We use modern technology and AI to streamline the immigration process, making it faster and more efficient for businesses, employees, and immigration lawyers. We're a small team of Waterloo alumni backed by Y Combinator, Velocity, and Axiom Partners. The Role We're hiring our first full-time software engineer to help build the technology behind Gale. You'll primarily work on AI-powered internal tools that help immigration lawyers work more efficiently. This includes building interfaces for complex legal workflows, automating repetitive processes, and integrating LLMs into real-world products. You'll have significant ownership over the features you build, working directly with the founders and our legal team to identify problems, design solutions, ship to production, and iterate based on feedback. We're looking for someone who enjoys building products from 0 to 1, takes pride in shipping high-quality software, and is excited to work in a small, fast-moving team. Own features end to end. Take projects from initial scoping and technical design through implementation, deployment, and iteration. Build AI-powered tools. Develop products that help immigration lawyers manage cases, process documents, and automate repetitive workflows. Work across the stack. Build intuitive frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, and database integrations. Work directly with users. Understand how our legal team works, identify opportunities for improvement, and incorporate feedback into the product. Ship and iterate quickly. Balance development speed with code quality, reliability, and maintainability. Contribute to technical decisions. Help improve our architecture, development practices, and engineering processes as we grow. Our tech stack We primarily work with: - TypeScript - React - Postgres - Effect TS You don't need prior experience with every technology in our stack, but we expect you to be comfortable learning and working with them. What we're looking for - 2+ years of professional software engineering experience. - Strong experience with TypeScript and modern web technologies. - Ability to work across frontend and backend systems. - A product-oriented mindset and an interest in building intuitive, well-designed software. - Ability to take ownership of projects, work independently, and deliver results with minimal oversight. - Experience using coding agents like Claude/Codex/Cursor for development Pay and Benefits - Competitive salary, scaled with experience. - Competitive medical, dental, and vision benefits. - Equipment/office stipend. - In-person in Vancouver, BC

Requirements

Requires at least 2 years of professional software engineering experience, strong TypeScript and modern web technology skills, and the ability to work across frontend and backend systems. Candidates should be product-oriented, able to own projects independently, and experienced using coding agents such as Claude, Codex, or Cursor.
