Specific accountabilities

The incumbent is responsible for the delivery of strategic business and IT projects. A strong leader, he or she supervises a team of project managers and project control officers (PCOs). He or she plans, oversees and ensures the effective management of projects for various portfolios. The incumbent possesses extensive experience in project and program management and the ability to mentor and coach team members in order to help them meet expectations and achieve their objectives in terms of delivering designated goods and/or services.

  • Manage the IT projects portfolio (around $20M) by Ivanhoe Cambridge business and support units;
  • Lead the approval process for project budgets based on the business cases presented;
  • Monitor quality, progress, changes and performance for all projects and see to it that the relevant action plans are put into place by the corresponding project manager;
  • Oversee the allocation of IT centres of expertise to maximize utilization of both human and financial resources;
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of business needs, specifications, issues, risks, contexts and components of project portfolios;
  • Manage and monitor quality, progress, changes and performance for all IT projects;
  • Lead and manage course correction for struggling IT projects to ensure that results are delivered on time; sit on the project steering committee;
  • Act as an expert resource for business clients to discuss risks, challenges and recommendations to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget;
  • Maximize the contributions of employees under his or her supervision by setting, implementing and monitoring performance objectives in line with the business plan and exercising strong leadership;
  • Coach employees under his or her supervision and help them fine-tune their skills.

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field; master's degree an asset;
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the IT industry, including 10 years in a project management or program management capacity within a project office;
  • Solid understanding of industry best practices, especially those pertaining to PMI standards (PMP certification a considerable asset);
  • Experience in setting up an IT project office;
  • Experience in assessing IT project costs, risks and profitability;
  • Demonstrated customer service skills;
  • Knowledge of real estate management an asset;
  • Proven leadership skills (influence, negotiation, facilitation, decision-making and problem-solving);
  • Ability to manage complex solutions, exercise good judgment and be tactful in dealing with sensitive situations;
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills;
  • High stress tolerance;
  • Keen sense of commitment and personal motivation; self-directed and detail-oriented;
  • Extensive experience in a collaborative, teamwork-based culture;
  • Strong analytical and information processing skills;
  • Ability to influence and persuade others and initiate change;
  • Ability to set priorities and achieve results in a fast-paced environment;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French.
