Senior Developer, Institutional Analytics

SCOPE

Reporting to the IT Director Architecture and Project Portfolio Management, the incumbent is a technical lead responsible for the design, development, and validation of applications required to integrate data from Concordia’s information systems (Student, Human Resources, Faculty, Finance, and other information systems.) and the required transformations to make it available for data visualization (dashboard and artificial intelligence) and other institutional use.  The incumbent will work the Institutional Data Team and liaise with various University partners (e.g., human resources, finance, facilities, academic, faculties, research, and advancement), and the data governance committee to implement analytics solutions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Data profiling: explore and analyze data-related issues, technical and/or functional, with respect to analytical requirements.
• Participate in and/or conduct workshops with business analysts and data modeler. 
• Design queries to meet business/reporting requirements
• Oversee mapping specifications process.
• Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture: e.g., evaluate and propose best course of action for ETL based on data model and report needs. Optimize data extraction and transformation logic and translate them into development deliverables.
• Ensure that ETL architecture and deliverables adhere to prescribed security model and can meet the reporting/use case requirements while remaining optimal.
• Supervise & coordinate development activities of ETL implementation.
• Address and propose solutions to remediate ETL issues in the context of the platform architecture.
• Liaise between data modeler, ETL and Tabular model/Report development.
• Ensure operational efficiency, stability and monitoring of the ETL scripts executed in production.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business administration or relevant field with 4 to 7 years of related experience.
• Excellent working knowledge of ETL platform, SQL, data warehouse and data marts.
• Expertise in data modelling including dimensional, relational, data warehouse, hierarchical data models (logical / physical design).
• Leadership skills as well as the ability to work well with other professionals IT and departments.
• Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English; basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken French.
• Creative problem-solver with strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, sense of initiative and good organizational skills.
• Strong leadership and customer service focus.
• Works on multiple initiatives simultaneously and managing conflicting priorities.
• Working experience with Power BI, data modeling tool, and Data Visualization concepts.
• Experience with type of data managed by University 
• General familiarity with data analytics, reporting and data visualization end user tools and platforms.
• General familiarity with the advanced analytics and AI concepts, tools, and technologies.
