Specific accountabilities

Reporting to the Director, Data Governance and Process Optimization , you will be responsible for implementing the organization's data governance framework to protect and ensure the data quality. You will oversee development, execution, maintenance, awareness and promotional efforts for the data governance program. You will lead discussions about prioritizing various topics to be studied by the Governance Committee, made up of representatives of the management team, and coordinate the development of the corresponding roadmap with the managers on the working committee. You will help identify data-related risks and determine the organization's level of risk tolerance. You will work with business and technology teams to help them incorporate these practices into their roles and serve as a resource person as required. You will also ensure full compliance with the operational resilience policy.


  • Provide expert advice to teams as the data governance program is implemented;
  • Promote data democratization through communication and awareness activities;
  • Spearhead the development of the data governance structure by playing an influential role on various committees and the working group to ensure priority is put on business topics involving the use of governed data and arbitration as appropriate;
  • Foster and maintain synergies with the various teams involved in program delivery;
  • Coordinate documentation and mapping concerning the definition and standardization of strategic and protected data, in accordance with data security criteria, working with data managers and experts in the designated business units;
  • Ensure the policy is adhered to in routine operations and projects utilizing strategic and/or protected data;
  • Facilitate business team buy-in with regard to tools, methods and responsibilities by providing advice and support as needed;
  • Educate designated business team leaders about opportunities for improvement through simplifying and automating dataflows in business processes to address governance-related needs;
  • Coordinate the implementation and ongoing development of tools used to centralize data governance and integrate them into reporting mechanisms, systems, data warehouses, etc.;
  • Define and update indicators related to key objectives and outcomes with regard to the impact of data governance;
  • Revise and disseminate the data governance policy;
  • Monitor trends and best practices in the industry;
  • Coordinate the preparation of various reports required for governance purposes;
  • Establish and ensure compliance with program principles and policies;
  • Develop and deploy the program's roadmap.

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, business intelligence, information architecture, information science, business administration or another related discipline;
  • Seven to ten years of relevant experience, or a relevant combination of education and/or experience;
  • Training or relevant experience in accounting, finance;
  • Experience in implementing a data governance or quality program, an asset;
  • Knowledge of standards (e.g., DAMA), an asset;
  • Knowledge of the use of technological tools to support data governance (metadata and data quality), an asset;
  • Familiarity with investment, asset management or real estate management organizations, an asset;
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage committees and working groups;
  • Good judgment and tact in resolving delicate situations;
  • Work experience in both strategic and operational management;
  • Ability to simplify and summarize information and convey it in easy-to-understand language, especially in conversations with management;
  • Excellent social and interpersonal skills;
  • Capacity to formulate a vision for your area of expertise; knowledge of the business sector;
  • Ability to provide sound advice to various business units;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with a gift for tailoring messages to their respective audiences;
  • Self-directed, meticulous and curious, with good time management and organization skills and a strong sense of integrity;
  • Excellent written and spoken French and English.
