We are looking for a Senior Security Technician

As a Senior Security Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, programming, repair, maintenance, monitoring and coordination of security equipment and systems for the Canadian Museum of History (CMH) including for the Canadian War Museum (CWM); maintains a good knowledge of security system installation, maintenance and repair techniques and provides advice and support to the CMH and the CWM Security Services group during these activities, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in:

  • Working in the field in facilities and/or construction sites with exposure mainly to the security and electrical trades in installation, repair, maintenance, and modifications of security systems;
  • A/V equipment installation and programming in connection with security infrastructure;
  • Installing security end devices such as cameras, end device alarms, motion, detectors, access control including cabling and programming; in a highly secure building or museum environment;
  • In coordinating and monitoring outsourced security system contracts in commercial or institutional buildings;
  • In the inspection and coordination of security system installations in a construction environment;
  • In delivering multiple, concurrent priorities within tight timelines.

Knowledge of:

  • Security system related IT architecture, concepts, system design, development, integration/installation, and other emerging security technologies.
  • Tools, equipment, materials, industry practices and techniques/methodologies related to security systems, maintenance, and installation. 
  • Knowledge of security maintenance operations and techniques, troubleshooting approaches and techniques, and testing diagnostic security software and recovery procedures.
  • Knowledge of large scale security system analysis, design, development, support and implementation; 
  • Electronics, security systems including IT networks and IT based computer and of wired and wireless electronic communications systems;
  • Security protocols, access control systems, surveillance cameras, and alarm systems; of building and construction safety codes and standards;       
  • Working knowledge in the reading of design plans and schematic drawings;
  • Best practices and protocols to address contemporary security challenges to implement effective security measures, including risk and threat assessments regarding vulnerabilities and threats to a system or facility;
  • Of project and risk management and principles to create robust security solutions tailored to specific environments and potential threats; 
  • Occupational Health and Safety regulations and standards;
  • Knowledge of Data/Security Management Systems, including Genetec, Bosch, Pelco, Facility Commander, March Networks, and DOS programming;
  • Information and Technology standards and strategies to represent the interests, needs, and concerns of the CMH and CWM in relation to corporate security initiatives.

Education: College diploma in a field related to electronics or control systems, or an equivalent level of education and experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of security equipment and systems.

Conditions:

  • Ability to lift loads exceeding 15 kg;
  • Ability to work at heights and on ladders;
  • Ability to walk and work standing up for long periods; 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Fall Arrest Certification for use of Scissor Lifts and Articulated Boom Lifts;
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Genetec Certification (Genetec- SC-OTC-001 and Genetec SC-STC-001);
  • Bosch certification (G series / B series Expert);

Compensation: $ 77,393 to $ 95,778 
Status: Permanent Full-Time Position (# 10419-01) and an inventory of qualified candidates to staff future vacancies for this position on permanent or temporary basis. This inventory will be active for 6 months.

Location: 100, Laurier Street, Gatineau, Quebec and 1, Vimy Place, Ottawa, Ontario * This position requires in-person presence.
