Analyst I, Collaboration Architecture

Permanent, full-time position – Toronto, ON

Play a vital role as part of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Information Technology Services (ITS) team in ensuring that the right cloud-based and on-premises collaboration technologies and solutions are in place to support teaching, learning and business needs.

Reporting to, and working with, the Senior Analyst – Technology Architecture, you'll identify and define architecture goals, roadmaps and guidelines for collaboration technologies and solutions within the Board. You'll ensure seamless integration with TDSB's technical infrastructure as you go about researching, designing, developing and implementing collaboration solutions and tools to support the requirements of classroom learning, business functions and efficient ITS operations.

As an Analyst I, Collaboration Architecture, you'll design, develop and integrate cloud-based/on-premises solution prototypes/proofs-of-concepts that can be used to deliver services that foster collaboration between users within the Board and third parties, and design/develop solutions/mashups that leverage existing technology architectural components in order to extend existing collaboration services offered. This collaborative role will see you working with internal application developers, Operations teams and external vendors in the definition, implementation and updates of DevOps practices for the TDSB environment, and with internal and external professionals and clients to promote existing and new collaboration technologies, methodologies and practices offered by ITS.

Looking to the future, you'll research and investigate potential technology solutions that align with TDSB and ITS strategies, in order to modernize and optimize TDSB's technology infrastructure, as well as evaluate and validate new applications and solutions to ensure they adhere to TDSB's technical standards and best practices, and support its vision for collaboration technologies and capabilities.


As an Analyst I, Collaboration Architecture, you will:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Analyst to identify potential opportunities for enhancing collaboration services offered within the TDSB, including requirements gathering, design, development and testing of new services and enhancement to existing services;
  • Assist the Application Development and ITS Operations teams in the definition, testing, configuration and adoption of DevOps practices and tools such as Azure DevOps, microservices and container services, CI/CD, Agile methodology, Infrastructure as Code, etc.;
  • Develop criteria for qualifying on-premises and cloud-based solutions and technologies for the TDSB environment;
  • Perform requirements gathering, specifications development, detailed systems design, including technical, software and database design for the solutions developed, modified, or enhanced;
  • Identify opportunities for leveraging internal and external platforms for building composite collaboration & associated integrated tools to aid in teaching and learning;
  • Perform research, analysis and assessment, configuration, scripting, software development and testing required to enhance, integrate and fix existing and upcoming collaboration platforms (e.g., G-Suite for education, Azure Active Directory/Office 365, SharePoint Online, Skype for Business, MS Teams);
  • Develop interfaces that facilitate integration between different platforms and systems (e.g., ETL's API integrations, Enterprise Data Bus);
  • Perform unit, functional, systems, integration and performance testing in collaboration with integrators and operations of the development, modifications and enhancements of the systems being built;
  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex problems, as tier 3, related to deployed collaboration systems as well as new services implemented/integrated due to evolving technologies;
  • Develop a course of action to rectify any program or procedure deficiency and write scripts to correct data files;
  • Inform the Senior Analyst of status and maintain problem resolution logs;
  • Maintain knowledge of current and upcoming new technological advancements and adoption methods such as DevOps and SOA;
  • Develop objectives and plans for the following year, reviewed quarterly and annually;
  • Provide back-up in other ITS functional areas, as required;
  • Investigate development tools and utilities, and promote these by leading Agile implementation practices to establish programming standards for the Operations & development environment;
  • Attend technology conferences and training seminars, read a variety of technology journals in order to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of current and future technologies; and
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.


To take on the role of Analyst I, Collaboration Architecture, you must have:

  • University degree in Computer Science/Engineering with three (3) years' progressively responsible related working experience in an Information Technology software development environment, with emphasis on.NET Framework, PowerShell SQL Server Databases, and DevOps practices, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience;
  • Certification in Microsoft technology, i.e., Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA);
  • Current expertise in .Net Framework, Azure DevOps, ARM templates, Visual Studio, SQL SSIS, PowerShell, JSON, XML;
  • Strong Agile project management skills to manage technology-related projects and initiatives;
  • Solid understanding of ITS technical infrastructure components and automation using Infrastructure as Code;
  • Understanding of specification creation and prototype development;
  • Good oral, written, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Strong analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills; and
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.

Wage rate: $41.64 per hour

This CUPE Local 4400 permanent, full-time position, located at 140 Borough Drive (wheelchair accessible), may require occasional travel across TDSB sites. You must be available for on-call evenings, weekends and extended vacation periods, and to work overtime, as required.
