York University owns, operates and maintains on premise voice/data switching platform, voicemail systems and other related systems. Telecommunications team is accountable for all communications including telephone, network interfaces, cable T.V., modem lines, debit card verification lines, door entrance systems, alarm circuits, and other related technologies both at York and Glendon Campuses. The PBX Administrator role is responsible for providing expert telecommunications advice to the Telecommunications team and senior UIT management. The role entails the cognitive and conceptual development of all integral system software and hardware related to the telecommunication services provided by York University. The PBX Administrator role performs advanced system diagnostics to troubleshoot and repair software, hardware, and trunking service issues.

Education:

University Degree in computer sciences, Engineering or related technology discipline / area or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:

2 years of related work experience maintaining telecommunications systems. A thorough knowledge of the telecommunications architecture and network infrastructure, including the PSTN (Public Switched Telecommunications Network). Requires investigative experience and analytical expertise in dealing with complex telecommunications service problems with hardware, software, and infrastructure wiring (cable/fiber) backbone. Information collating from varied technical sources as well as interdepartmental communications, policies and procedures is required. A high level of precision and attention to detail is required in investigating problems and in developing and implementing new software, hardware designs and technology. Must have the ability to work and communicate clearly all problems and requirements to outside service vendors when required.

Skill in conceptualizing telecommunication systems in an abstract form is an asset.Other:
In-depth knowledge of various peripheral components and protocols that make up the Telecommunications central systems including but not limited: Ribbon VoIP Application Server, Ribbon Provisioning Portal, Ribbon Gencom and NTeract Softphone application (Desktop and Mobile), OpenText Messaging System, Ribbon G5 Analog Gateway, Enghouse Call Centre server, and applications.
Working knowledge of VOIP and Networking is an asset.
In-depth knowledge of specialized telecommunications software and a good understanding of specific computer software packages including but not limited to Realtime Monitors. The PBX Administrator maintains the telecom related systems with basic understanding of current applicable operating systems such as Windows Servers, Linux, and VMware to support the ongoing maintenance of the University's Telecommunications Suite products.
