We are looking for a Lead Software Developer to join our Data Analytics Team! You will analyze, recommend, develop, support, and enhance the software and analytical systems of the organization to meet business objectives. The team is responsible for diverse data and analytics related projects, helping investment teams organize, interpret, and act upon financial and market related data. What we do has an impact on helping the teachers of Ontario feel secure in having a financially safe retirement, as well as help distribute the over $240B fund of OTPP onto deserving investment targets.
On a day-to-day level, we are looking for someone who is excited about creating data pipelines as their bread and butter, as well as additionally working on web and reporting applications which will surface the data to our business partners.
Who you’ll work with
The Data Analytics Team is a medium sized team of software developers, distributed across multiple software projects which are completed for various stakeholders. We are looking for a team player who can work in a group, as you may be working on projects and will need to communicate and work effectively within the team. You will also need to communicate with our end users and project coordinators, many whom may not be very technical.
What you’ll do
Lead the design, planning, estimation, execution, completion, and leadership of well-designed and architected systems in the Data Analytics delivery team.
Develop both personal and project plans, interfacing with developers and project managers and acting as a mentor to junior development staff
Participate in modern technology investigation and make recommendations for technology adoption where appropriate. To assist with consistently evolving our data processes and techniques in accordance with industry best practices for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and MS Azure ‘big data’ technologies
Create data pipelines and analytics solutions to surface data to the end users, using Python and C#
Ingest data from a variety of internal and external sources, through data stores, files, APIs, etc.
Architect, implement, and maintain proper corresponding data stores (SQL Server, Oracle) for data pipelines and reporting
Create and maintain user interfaces for surfacing or interacting with the data using Front end technology (Angular, React)
Set up or maintain scheduled job triggers and/or deployment orchestration (UC4/Automic, UCD, Jenkins)
Maintain currency in technological trends and directions, continually upgrading personal, technical, and IT (Information Technology) related skills through research, education, and self-motivated technology experimentation
What you’ll need
Computer Science, Engineering, or related studies, or equivalent working experience
Advanced knowledge of information systems theories, concepts, methods, and techniques
Minimum 7 years design/development experience with at least 2 years in a lead developer capacity using object-oriented programming patterns and designs, leveraging a language such as C# .NET, Python, Java
Experience in leading initiatives through the full software development life cycle - from conception to completion - with proven ability to assume a leadership role in coordinating activities, scheduling, and project control
Effective communication skills for interacting with both technical and non-technical people
Advanced understanding of core data management and analytics concepts. Experience with relational and dimensional models using Oracle/PL-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server, or equivalents
Strong SQL skills, with experience querying large, structured, and unstructured, datasets from multiple sources and developing automated reports within web-based interface (i.e., Angular, or similar frameworks) and enterprise reporting tools (i.e., Power BI)
Object Oriented Programming experience (Python/C#) for scripting, data manipulation, custom ETLs, and development of APIs
Understanding of Machine Learning and AI concepts to design and support engagements with cross functional teams across the organization.
