Fleming College is located in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes Region, in Central Ontario – a beautiful place to live and work, surrounded by natural beauty and a mere 90 minutes northeast of Toronto. The College's 6,000 full-time and 10,000 part-time students, including hundreds of international students, attend at campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Haliburton and Cobourg. Fleming offers more than 100 full-time programs in Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Fine Arts, General Arts and Science, Technology, Skilled Trades, Community Development, Health, Business, and Justice, as well as other Continuing Education courses. Our Fleming, Our Future, the 2019-24 strategic plan recognizes that technology and changing demographics have disrupted the world in which we live.  Augmenting this digitalization priority has been the rapid demand for change as a result of COVID-19.  We are seeking an inclusive, results-oriented Chief Technology Officer (CTO) who embraces innovation with a service-focused leadership style to work collaboratively with internal and external partners in fulfilling this critical mission. Reporting to, and working closely with, the President of the College, you'll help to finalize and implement an IT Renewal Strategy and Action Plan for the Fleming enterprise

This is a complex and high-impact mandate that will see you working collaboratively across Fleming and with its partners, including students, employers and government. A key priority includes creating a Tech Development Centre that will conduct an inventory of the technology and digital tools that currently exist at Fleming, and consult with industry to guide the expansion of technology for faculty and students so that they are using the most up-to-date technology to meet the expectations of modern workplaces.

Among your collaborative achievements, additional priorities include:

  1. implementation of a Digital and Communications Transformation Strategy to improve business processes and use of digital tools to engage with the College's various audiences;
  2. develop and implement an enterprise-wide technology strategy that advances the Strategic Plan for Fleming including leading edge AI and other initiatives; and,
  3. establish a professional technology savvy labour force to provide superior and timely support to the core business and functions of Fleming College, it's partners and community.

Fleming is committed to strengthening its relationship with Indigenous Peoples by helping to create opportunities in post-secondary education and ensuring all students and staff gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous Peoples. This is a shared responsibility and, it too, will be reflected in your mandate.

With a university degree in a related area in preferred along with a track record of digital transformational leadership, and proven success as an IT leader in a large complex, multi-stakeholder organization, ideally in both the public and private sectors, you have the business and political acumen as well as the technical expertise and insight this executive position demands. Industry certifications such as Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) would be a plus. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Together with a proactive approach and extensive knowledge of best practices in delivering innovative, timely and effective I&T solutions, you have an in-depth knowledge of web and data system architecture, a strong understanding of modern development technologies and the ability to grasp industry trends. Equally important, you are known for your experience in using information security frameworks and security policies and procedures, as well as exercising political acumen and forging results with agility. A proven communicator, you are adept at leading, engaging and inspiring high-performing IT teams, developing and maintaining strong partnerships with stakeholders and liaising effectively with senior leadership team members. Knowledge of relevant legislation will also prove invaluable in this role.
