We are currently recruiting for a Systems and Database(s) Administrator to work at our headquarters for a term contract of 6 months with the possibility of extension.

What you will be doing…

The Systems  and Database(s) Administrator is a position within the team of dedicated technical personnel responsible for providing end user support services and assisting in the effective administration, maintenance, management and support of Commissionaires Ottawa wide area network (COWAN) and telecommunications (voice and data), audio visual and radio systems.  This includes a variety of complex operating systems, networks, platforms and software packages.

Some of your responsibilities include…

As the Systems Administrator, you will be multi-tasked and required to answer service requests via phone, email or Help Desk ticketing system by tracking activities and producing reports of issues / resolutions in a centralized database. Other Duties may include:

  • Provide technical advice and support all employees, and explain standards and policies related to use of networks, software, hardware and peripherals, and any other IT infrastructures or services. 
  • Assist in the maintenance of all telecommunication equipment (PBX, Corporate Voice Data servers and devices, Call Centre Reporting software, UHF, VHF radios and Blackberry Enterprise.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve software, hardware, communication and connectivity problems, as well as security issues.
  • Participate in rotating on-call after-hours support with occasional requirement to travel to our regional offices within Ontario.

You're a good fit if…

  • You have a Diploma in Information Technology support, Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • You have at least one (1) year of experience in a similar role within the last two (2) years
  • You are customer service focused, including the ability to understand and troubleshoot end user issues and provide simplified explanations of complex processes
  • You possess strong analytical, problem-solving and quick decision-making skills
  • You possess exceptional attention to details and high degree of accuracy
  • You have excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize work requests, multitask, and adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • You are able to maintain confidential information and demonstrate exceptional discretion

Your must-haves:

  • Experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting computer hardware and software in a dynamic, hosted networked environment
  • Experience with support ticket management and tracking system
  • Experience in providing user-support for Blackberry, Androids and other cellular devices, familiar with UHF and VHF radio networks
  • Recent experience with the administration of user accounts in Active Directory and Group Policy
  • In-depth knowledge of supporting Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience with backup solutions in a virtualized environment
  • Excellent English verbal and technical writing skills; French would be an asset
  • A Level II (SECRET) Government of Canada security clearance (or the able to obtain one)

Good to have:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains financials, inventory asset management and operations would be an asset
