Project Manager, Student Information System (SIS)

Two (2)-year contract, full-time position

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced project manager, able to handle the full scope of deliverables as well as confidently develop best practices and tools for project execution and management. Reporting to the Manager, SIS Modernization, you'll direct and manage project development – from beginning to end – while adhering to strict deadlines, schedules, quality controls and the approved budget. In collaboration with all stakeholders, including senior management and project team members, you'll also define and manage project scope, goals, milestones and deliverables that support business goals. Your strengths as a communicator will prove invaluable as you liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis, effectively set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders, and communicate expectations in a timely, clear fashion, and generally build, develop and grow any business relationships that are vital to project success.

As Project Manager, Student Information System (SIS), you'll be expected to develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents, estimate resources and participants required to achieve project goals, draft and submit budget proposals, and create RFP/RFQ and tender documents. In this full-scope role, you'll identify and manage project dependencies and critical path, plan and schedule timelines and milestones, develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations, determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results and troubleshoot problem areas. Your past accomplishments in this field will have equipped you to proactively manage changes in project scope, identifying potential crises and devising contingency plans, define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties through the project life cycle, conduct project post-mortems and create a recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

A proven leader and facilitator, you'll supervise the Business/Data Analysts, delegate tasks and responsibilities to the appropriate personnel, identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team, coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and outside vendors and/or contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.


With no fewer than three (3) to five (5) years' direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution, backed by a degree or diploma in business, computer science, information systems, or another relevant field, you have the solid foundation this leadership role demands. The following experience, knowledge and skill set will also contribute to your success as Project Manager, Student Information System (SIS):

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Project, Access, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Experience demonstrating knowledge of standards, techniques, methodologies, best practices and project management tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience supervising a team.
  • Very strong planning, reporting and analysis skills to systematically document and create useful tools that enable effective decision-making.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to prioritize shifting priorities, demands and schedules during times of change through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent listening, coaching, group facilitation, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to read communication styles and elicit cooperation of project team members and stakeholders who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
  • Excellent technical, presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • PMP or Prince2 certification.
  • A valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

  • Experience at managing projects, budgets and teams in a school board or public sector, ideally in an IT environment.
  • Customer service skills.

SALARY RANGE:  $83,359 - $104,197 per annum (under review)
