Position:                                Manager, Information Technology

Status:                                   Full Time

Salary Range:                       $107,721.71 - $127,029.79

Position Summary

The Manager, Information Services actively participates in the general planning and management of Milton Public Library. The primary focus of the position is the planning, development, implementation, operation and evaluation of the Information Technology systems and infrastructure to support library operations and achievement of service excellence.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans, directs and executes the Information Technology/Systems functions including but not limited to; establishing short and long-range strategies, policies, procedures and workflow, technical support, development and implementation of new technologies for the public and staff, Network/Systems Administrator functions related to LAN/WAN network operations, server administration, Internet, database applications, data, voice and wireless communications, data security, e-resources and digital information.
  2. Manages IT Staff, including but not limited to hiring, scheduling promotion, evaluation, coaching, supervision, progressive discipline and recommends dismissal of direct reports.
  3. Responsible for MPL's technology architecture and security
  4. Participates in the development and achievement of goals and objectives for the Milton Public Library.
  5. Works co-operatively with the Leadership and Management Teams to assess needs and develop plans to support library operations and the achievement of goals.
  6. Participates in the development of the Library's Capital and Operating Budgets and manages the associated budgets related to Information Technology.
  7. Develops, monitors and reviews Information Technologies policies system–wide in accordance with MPL's mission statement.
  8. Participates in long-range planning of the Information Technology requirements, including but not limited to, existing and future facilities, policy and procedure development, service planning and coordination.
  9. Responsible for the development and maintenance of relationship with vendors and service providers.
  10. Participates in the development of system-wide services and procedures that provide a positive environment and a high-level of excellence to the public.
  11. Writes and implements grants to support services programs of the library system.
  12. Actively participates in networking and community partnerships and on external and internal committees and attends meetings, courses and conferences as required.
  13. May serve as a management representative on various committees
  14. Participates in publicity, community relations, and special projects and events.
  15. Attends and participates in Library Board meetings as required
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Computer Science or related discipline with a minimum of five (5) years' experience in an IT environment.
  • Minimum  four (4) years' of Management experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in a unionised environment
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills
  • Superior facilitation and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability in managing change

Work Environment

  • Works to frequent deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Works at any MPL library location or offsite as necessary
  • Works 35 hours per week and other hours as required for meetings, business/social events and special projects, and weekends and evenings as required
  • Supervises in a unionised workplace
