Position:                             IT Technician

Status:                                Grade I (Non-Union)

Salary Range:                     $59,190.01 - $75,468.30 per year

Home Location:                Main Library

Position Summary

The IT Technician position is a non-union position that acts as a super-user with access to all network and personal files and folders within MPL's domain. The position is responsible for providing technical support to all internal departments at MPL. The position will take the lead on day-to-day IT management which includes, but not is limited to: active directory administration, regular system patching, producing technical documentation, security administration and delivering IT training.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one end-user support for internal customers and problem resolution via telephone, e-mail, and other modes of communication
  • Prioritising and managing IT incidents to resolution
  • Perform in-person, on-site repairs of PC desktop hardware, printers, and other peripherals
  • Responsible for all hardware and software deployments supporting the manager in maintaining infrastructure currency
  • Act as a super user with access to all end user desktops files and share-folders
  • Provides IT support to MPL's Board of Directors, including the uploading and digital storage of MPL's Board of Directors files, as necessary
  • Accurately log work orders/help desk tickets and resolutions into help desk software management system; maintenance of this process
  • Compile, maintain, and file all repair records, reports, and other documents, as required
  • Responsible for the administration of Active Directory and the development of processes for security and effective account management
  • Documenting all incidents, outages, status and resolutions in accordance with IT service desk procedures
  • Creating technical documentation, support procedures and user manuals for software and hardware as required
  • Perform security administration functions for user, data and remote access
  • Provide training to MPL employees and enhance IT knowledge Base
  • Enable asset management practices to ensure accurate account of technology and lifecycle
  • Work on Information Technology projects under the leadership of the IT Manager
  • Under the direction of management, responsible for the provision and denial of access to the network
  • Other duties as required


  • Degree or College Diploma specialising in Information Technology
  • CompTIA A+/Network+ or MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) certification
  • One year experience in an IT enterprise environment supporting Windows Desktop OS and Active Directory
  • Experience with WSUS and patch automation, Office 365, Exchange, Intranet (One-Drive, SharePoint), Network Security
  • Experience with Windows, Linux, Unix, Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with ITIL principles

Work Environment

  • Non-Union Position
  • Ability to bend and lift items up to 30kg
  • Use of own vehicle to transport materials and correspondence.
  • Works at any MPL library location
  • Works as per the assigned schedule, including evenings and weekends as required.
