Specific Job Description

The successful candidate will be called to work at the LM Canada AOPS worksite at Irving Shipbuilding Industries (ISI) Ltd in Halifax once the necessary security clearances have been granted by the government of Canada and Visit Clearance Request approved by ISI.

The candidate will be involved in the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) Program, including integration, set to work, test and trials, and acceptance of command and surveillance systems. This is a Lead position which will require frequent interface with ISI. This role is seen as not only being critical to the successful execution of the AOPS Program, but the successful candidate will also play a significant role in helping shape relationships with ISI and build on the continued positive working relationship with the customer during the transition from AOPS to the CSC Program.

The candidate will function in a fast-paced multi-disciplined team environment, and participate in all appropriate I&T activities including but not limited to:

  • Perform as Deputy to the AOPS Shipyard Combat System Integration Lead at the
  • Shipyard to support the Lead to provide oversight and liaison with ISI and to manage LM scope of work
  • Manage a team of 5 engineers
  • Provide leadership to the LM Ship Installation, Integration and Test Team in completion of STW and trials program
  • Promoting solid safety practices within the shipyard
  • Maintenance of a high standard of professional excellence
  • Assist in establishing enablers and maintaining framework which will ensure LM I&T team success in a dynamic and exciting work environment
  • Management of an extremely capable and dynamic LM team
  • Support ISI in sell-off of Combat Systems performance and test requirements to Canada
  • Attend ISI and internal LM meetings as required
  • Resolution of I&T related issues and discrepancies with the customer
  • Liaison with respective SMEs, OEMs, SCAs, etc. to resolve technical issues in support of trials and sell-off
  • Support/implement initiatives to improve Ship Combat Systems Installation, Integration and test program efficiencies and minimize rework
  • Share lessons learned with peers and co-workers across the organization
  • Assist in refining staffing plan and requirements in support of execution of I&T Shipboard Integration Scope.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Science or related field
  • 10 + years’ combined technical and management experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated capability to perform well in difficult or ambiguous situations
  • Experience in a shipyard environment
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Aptitude for providing technical guidance and solving challenging problems
  • Works well individually or in a team environment
  • Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Naval Combat Systems would be considered an asset
  • Ability to acquire NATO Secret Security clearance.

  • Ability to work Overtime when required
  • Ability to work onboard a Naval Vessel at height and in confined spaces
  • Materials Management experience
  • Common office administrative software tools experience (Microsoft Office products)
  • Planning and scheduling experience (Microsoft Project and/or Primavera).
