DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Information Technology Department is responsible for providing technology solutions that contribute to the achievement of BCI's vision and long-term goals. The department manages the Corporation's business applications and information technology infrastructure, providing support to a large group of financial professionals. The IT Department is also responsible for authoring IT-related directives and conducting disaster recovery planning to minimize risk to the Corporation's delivery of investment services.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to an IT Account Manager, the IT Business Planner is responsible for developing and delivering the key artifacts that enable strategic projects for business clients. The IT Business Planner works closely with IT teams across the Department to research project opportunities, conduct options analysis, develop feasibility studies and deliver compelling business cases for potential IT projects. S/he supports a portfolio of IT projects that extend and advance business client goals. The position can be based in either Vancouver or Victoria with travel between the two cities.

QUALIFICATIONS

MUST HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce or in a related field, Master's in Business Administration preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in project analysis, project development or business development role
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communications skills for IT and business client audiences
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to conduct analysis and develop complex business cases that address business client needs

PREFERRED:

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Kanban) is an asset
  • Advanced Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills is an asset
  • Knowledge of the investment management industry and related business trends

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with team members, other IT teams and business client areas to understand the goals and objectives of assigned business client area(s)
  • Develops and maintains account management profiles for business client area(s)
  • Conducts research on the trends and challenges that impact business clients and develops briefings and summaries that resonate with other IT teams and business clients
  • Facilitates meetings with other IT teams and business clients to identify the goals, objectives, needs and issues that inform decisions about existing and potential IT projects
  • Develops the business planning artifacts that support the assessment and prioritization of potential IT projects including, IT-business roadmaps, options analysis, cost/benefit analysis, feasibility studies and business cases
  • Applies quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques to business planning artifacts and leverages internal and external sources of data
  • Collaborates with other IT teams including Architecture, Business Advisory Services and Applications & Operations on the development, review and approval of business planning artifacts
  • Liaises with other IT teams to support the transition of potential IT projects to approved IT projects that are implemented through delivery teams
  • Produces reports on an ad hoc and regular basis and provides business clients and other IT teams with information and insights on account management activities
  • Develops and delivers formal presentations for IT and business client audiences
  • Participates in account management team activities and continuously works to improve processes, procedures, templates and tools
  • Ensures business planning artifacts are accurate, accessible, maintained and communicated
  • Proactively identifies risks and issues and proposes solutions to remove barriers
  • Undertakes special projects or assignments as required
  • Performs other related duties as required
