About the position:

Reporting to the Director of Information Management Services, the Manager (level 1), IMS is a newly created role that rounds out our current management team. We are filling one position at this time and may fill a second one, in the foreseeable future. 

Overall, the management team is responsible for the administration and operation of the IMS department, including leading and developing staff members, planning, budget, operational management, technology solutions development, client services and technical program implementation. Our IMS department supports 90,000 users including students and staff and supports 50,000 devices spread across a diverse network in 144 locations and schools.

Responsibilities are divided between 4 Managers. As such, portfolios may differ depending on expertise and operational needs but generally include:

  • Technology Solution development: Strategic planning, endpoints (Mac, PC, IOS), SCCM, Intune, MS endpoint management (MECM), Jamf, Software evaluation processes, Network (HP-Aruba wired & wireless), LAN, WAN, firewalls (Palo Alto), Data Centre, Anti-Virus (Sophos, Windows), Telephony (Avaya), etc
  • Application Management: Strategic Planning, Cloud MS365 & Teams, MS Exchange online, MS Active Directory, PowerSchool ERP, MyEdBC (Aspen Follet), SchoolBundle, FreshGrade, Data Strategies, PowerBI, data privacy, Software development, etc
  • Infrastructure and Project management: deployment of new technology (computers, network, infrastructure), Asset Management (Absolute Software, Destiny Resource Manager, Jamf), client communication & district reporting.
  • Security & Operation: Cyber Security Awareness (Proofpoint), Network Monitoring, Firmware & patching, security vulnerability reviews & assessments, Backup and restores, etc
  • Field Services & day to day support: Reactive remote and onsite support, troubleshooting and root cause analysis, Technology deployment, re-imaging, client communications, reporting.
  • Service Desk: Call centre management (system centre service manager – SCSM+Cireson), client communication & district reporting, Incidence Management (IM), Service Response (SR), Problem Management (PM) and Change Management (CM).
  • Assessing and delivering the most suitable technologies to support educators and administrators.
  • Leading and developing unionized staff members.
  • Providing guidance and advice to all District stakeholders and clients.

Required education and experience:

  • A 2 year technology diploma or certificate from an accredited institution AND,
  • A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity OR,
  • Equivalent relevant experience 

 

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in teamwork.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally, and in writing.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in client service and highly collaborative team environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Enterprise & Cloud technologies (Microsoft Windows, 365, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, Azure, SCCM/MECM/intune, Jamf).
    • Networking technologies (HP-Aruba, Airwave, ClearPass, Palo Alto).
    • Data Centre technologies (HP Servers, Nimble, VMware).
    • Computer Platforms.
      • Apple Technologies (iPads, Laptops, Desktops, IOS, mac O/S).
      • PC Technologies (Dell, Windows 10).

Assets:

  • Previous experience in K – 12 sector.
  • Supervising in unionized environment.
  • Supervising in large, complex organization.
