Vancouver International Airport (YVR) provides an essential service to the community by facilitating the safe and efficient movement of goods and people. Vancouver Airport Authority (VAA) is the purpose-driven, non-share capital private corporation that operates the airport. It exists for the sole purpose of servicing its community and the economy that supports it. YVR is situated on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people, at the mouth of the Fraser River estuary, which grounds it in its unique sense of place. VAA is made up of a team of diverse people who are working collaboratively toward achieving its strategic goals, and with all operations requiring more and more accurate data to make better business decisions, the role of the Innovation and Technology Group has been elevated. It is now viewed as a strategic partner and key to ensuring the business remains nimble, resilient, and ahead of the pack in the face of unpredictability, and it is seeking a new Director to lead Infrastructure & Corporate Systems to help guide the organization on its innovation journey.

Reporting to the Vice President, Innovation & Chief Information Officer, the Director, IT – Infrastructure & Corporate Systems (Director) will lead the ongoing development of YVR's technology Infrastructure (including storage, server, and networks) and Corporate Systems. Acknowledging the impact that COVID has wrought on YVR specifically and the industry more generally, the individual will help build on the organization's reputation as an innovative industry leader and contribute to the building of a better, smarter airport while promoting a team culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and customer service. Leading a dedicated group of Managers and overseeing the Infrastructure, Cyber, Enterprise, and Corporate Systems functions, the Director will define the future state for both Infrastructure and Corporate Systems and ensure best practices are in place for quality assurance management, disaster recovery planning, and vendor management. YVR's renewal will rely on the successful leveraging of its technology and digital assets, and thus the Director will be excited to strategically contribute to organization-wide technology initiatives that may not have been possible pre-COVID including the Innovation Hub @ YVR, IoT, kiosks, the adoption of 5G, and digital twinning the airport.

The ideal candidate will have a vision for how strategically planned and managed technology infrastructure can provide stability, flexibility, and scalability while supporting innovation, and for how Corporate Systems can improve efficiencies in an incredibly fast-paced, 24/7 operation. A visionary, the Director will possess a nurturing and supportive leadership approach and display the ability to work collaboratively to reach new goals that serve the needs of both internal and external customers. They will have a demonstrable reputation as a skillful communicator, an outstanding team leader, and a true talent manager. Additionally, the incumbent will have a track record of outstanding client relationship management, as well as a proven ability to strategically develop, plan, and deliver mission critical initiatives on time and on budget.  In the airport industry, YVR has consistently been a world leader with regards to leveraging technology and the organization continues to focus on innovation in all areas of its business. As such, the Director must bring an innovation mindset and the desire to continuously find efficiencies and improvements. Familiarity with the Microsoft suite of enterprise applications is considered an asset on account of VAA, and by extension YVR, being a MS shop.

As one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers, VAA strives for a workplace that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves. It supports the Employment Equity Act and takes measures to ensure fair employment practices and treatment of employees across its organization. It values the contributions of all employees and is committed to employment equity and diversity initiatives that work together to create a feeling of belonging for all employees. VAA welcomes applications from all qualified candidates.
