Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Information Technology, the Network Analyst plays a key role in managing the County IT infrastructure, servers, network, and radio systems. This position is responsible for but not limited to providing network support, server administration and application support.

Position Responsibilities

Systems Administration and Maintenance

  • Install, setup, maintain, and service IP networking equipment and communication devices such as VoIP phones, RoIP systems, IP Switches, Routers, Firewalls, Servers, and Storage infrastructure;
  • Analyze and monitor network performance, provide network support and resolve connectivity issues;
  • Manage IP addresses and resolve conflicts;
  • Provide continual maintenance and perform upgrades to maintain the security and integrity of all related systems;
  • Provide technical assistance regarding hardware, software, and applications in person, via telephone/email and/or remotely;
  • Service and maintain the virtual infrastructure;
  • Design and maintenance of fiber optic network;
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration;
  • Manage and support internal and external networks within the County;
  • Ensure data backups and conduct Disaster Recovery drills;
  • Control user access security and permissions, implement and maintain group policies;
  • Support services for Microsoft related technologies like Windows 11, Windows Server, Exchange, Office365, SharePoint etc.;
  • Assist system users and Council with training and troubleshooting computer operations and systems;
  • Analyze, research and record new technology equipment purchases;
  • Maintain inventory of all hardware, software and peripherals and ensure hardware and software is kept current and functional;
  • Provide continual maintenance of radio, dispatch, tower and telephone networks within Yellowhead County;
  • Provide maintenance, troubleshooting, and configuration of County radio systems;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Administrative

  • Develop, modify, and design documents for Yellowhead County as required;
  • Ensure all system/network documentation is current and accurate;
  • Ensure all systems/networks are backed up and a copy of the backup is stored on the central datastore;
  • Participate in the preparation of annual IT and radio budgets;
  • Consult with internal departments and provide in-house training as required;
  • Assist with the development of all information technology policies and procedures;
  • Ensure, all paperwork, purchase order information and all billing is processed properly and in a timely manner.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Skills

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science or a related field;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in enterprise level network design and support, including WAN/LAN, VLAN, optimization, load balancing;
  • Minimum two (2) years experience working for a government organization or similar;
  • Experience working with an ISP considered an asset;
  • Maintain at least one of MCSE, MCITP, MCSA, CCNA or equivalent certification considered an asset.
  • An ability to configure network hardware, install devices and cards, troubleshoot problems, and provide continual maintenance considered an asset;
  • Experience with Cisco routing and switching as well as Aruba/HP network products considered an asset;
  • Experience in cybersecurity including Next Generation Firewalls, and UTM appliances, Fortinet preferred;
  • A strong understanding of applications like QGIS, Avanti, Questica, Dynamics, Pearl, MuniSight etc. considered an asset;
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license;
  • Completion of Defensive Driving course.

Working Environment:

  • Work is conducted in both an office and shop setting;
  • Site visits to County facilities as required;
  • Physical lifting, ladder work, climbing, man lift, and other outside duties required on a regular basis;
  • Work as part of an on-call rotation that provides 24/7 support;
  • Work nights and weekends, as required.

 

The salary range is $69,600 to $86,304 per year. Yellowhead County offers a competitive benefits package.
