Overview of the role:

WestJet has embarked on digital transformation journey with a focus data driven productization and decisioning to continually provide world class guest experience. To achieve this vision, we are creating a modern technology infrastructure that is resilient and delivers the performance necessary to meet the product demands, and transforming development practices to adopt an integrated devsecops delivery. We are seeking an experienced Sr. Developer Integrations Services reporting into our Technology office with background in technology, agile development, microservices, platform integrations, and RESTful application service. The ideal candidate must adapt to a fast-evolving environment, capable of identifying delivery dependencies, setting expectations, and ensure business delivery.

Working with the Manager, IT-Integrations, the senior developer will collaborate closely with devops, cross-functional development, product and project teams to drive agile delivery and operationalization of data integrations.

Key deliverables include:

  • Promote Agile values, principles and practices within the team
  • Responsible for ensuring security, performance, manageability, quality, scalability and consistency of the integration architecture across the systems
  • Analyze, design, and implement integrations for both cloud-native and cloud-enabled systems
  • Promote data integration technology adoption across the enterprise. This includes leading and teaching others through practice, knowledge sharing, mentoring and training; documenting guidelines, best practices and lessons learned; and, participating in architecture reviews and code inspection sessions
  • Collaborate with colleagues and subject matter experts to create end to end detailed integration solutions
  • Support and maintain a positive safety culture by following all safety policies and procedures and actively contributing to a safe working environment
  • Collaborates across the team to gather and interpret integration specifications, data requirements, and data mappings
  • Leads innovation and continuous improvement by leveraging the latest industry knowledge. Maintains currency with new technologies, learns and adapts quickly to new situations and technologies
  • Identifies opportunities to continually develop skills, knowledge, and abilities
  • Demonstrates a propensity for innovation by experimenting with new ideas and technologies by measuring the impact of emerging technologies to recommend improvements
  • Supports the vision for Cloud Applications by working closely with team members and management to implement and support effective solutions for cloud native development
  • Analyzes and tunes integrations to optimize performance and reliability
  • Represent integrations services as a trusted technical advisor for all cloud integrations across the enterprise
  • Leverages best practices to support logical and efficient decision making
  • Contributes to an inclusive environment by building and maintaining collaborative relationships with team members, peers, and leaders

Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering with a minimum of ten years’ experience
  • Minimum six years of previous software development specific experience required and a minimum of four years of previous experience in software architecture and platform development such as Sabre IX, Event Processing, MicroServices, EIP preferred
  • Expertise with cloud technology integration, streaming, ML, and graph processing
  • Well versed in Integration architecture and integration solutions
  • Experience in Kafka, MQ, RMQ, Flinks, Spark, API Management Platforms, K8S, CI/CD
  • Extensive experience developing integrations, data extracts, data flows, and APIs
  • Substantial knowledge of security concepts and experience with secure code development techniques
  • Experience writing test cases for new and existing code to ensure compatibility and stability
  • A passion for problem-solving, comfortable with ambiguity and willing to challenge historical assumptions and conventions
  • Experience working within a highly regulated industry, knowledge of the airline industry is a plus
