Study: 73% of Canadian Organizations are Using Cloud Computing

Despite the use of the cloud in our daily lives, businesses are more reluctant to adopt this technology which they judge to be unsafe for their data. This poor perception, however, seems to be fading, because more and more organizations are working in the “cloud”, according to a recent study.

Centralization of information, large storage capacity, flexibility, cost reduction: there are many benefits of cloud computing for businesses. For many years, however, they have been reluctant to use this technology for fear of the security of their data. However, according to a study by Scalar Decisions, a Canadian IT solution provider, most Canadian organizations have overcome this hurdle, with nearly three-quarters of them delivering at least part of their IT services through a cloud platform. By 2016, only 59% were working in the cloud.

Using in small doses

Despite greater use of cloud computing, companies have been making the transfer sparingly.  35% of respondents feel that security issues determine the degree to which they use the technology.

In the IT field, cloud computing has not just become a standard service delivery model, it has become THE standard model,” says Rene Heroux, chief technology officer at Scalar Decisions. “While security remains a source of concern for organizations, they no longer consider it an obstacle to the adoption of cloud computing, as technology is now a potential means to counter these risks. Companies are now looking to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of their cloud infrastructure by designing new software and processes.”

Organizations are planning to raise the share of their budget for cloud computing from less than 20% to almost 30% over the next 36 months.
