Not a team of twelve ? you, working directly with the CFO, building and running the applications the business depends on. Most of what you'll face won't arrive as a specification. About us We're a Canadian B2B fuel and lubricant distributor serving customers. We're small, and we build our own software - invoicing tools, customer portals, reporting automation, mapping applications, internal dashboards. The role You'll be our software engineer. Not a team of twelve ? you, working directly with the CFO, building and running the applications the business depends on. Most of what you'll face won't arrive as a specification. It'll arrive as "these two numbers don't match and we don't know why," or "we need to invoice this customer differently and our system can't." Your job is to figure out what's actually wrong, decide what to build, and build it. The hard part of this role is judgment, not typing. Expect to touch everything: a Django backend one week, a React interface the next, a data pipeline after that, and the server it all runs on when something breaks at 6am. What you'll do * Diagnose problems in financial and operational data ? trace transactions, find the root cause, build the control that prevents it recurring * Build and ship internal web applications end to end: backend, frontend, database, deploy * Integrate third-party systems: payment terminals, fleet networks, telematics providers, supplier feeds, our ERPs * Own the infrastructure ? Railway, AWS, MongoDB Atlas, Cloudflare, Linux VMs * Bring order to a fast-growing stack: tests where they matter, one way of doing auth, deploys that don't require you to be awake What we're looking for * *3?7 years* shipping production software you personally owned end to end * Strong in *Python and JavaScript/TypeScript* ? Django/FastAPI and React are our stack, but if you're strong elsewhere and can pick these up, say so * Real SQL ability, not ORM-only * Comfortable on Linux and with your own deployments ? you don't need a DevOps team to get something live * *Genuine depth in at least one area* (backend, frontend, data, or infrastructure) and working competence in the rest * Ability to work from a vague business problem to a working solution without being handed requirements * Comfortable with financial data where being wrong has consequences We use modern development tooling, including AI assistants, as a normal part of how we work. Nice to have * Small-company or solo-founder background ? you've been the whole engineering department before * Logistics, fuel, distribution, or fintech exposure * ERP work of any kind (NetSuite, SAP B1, Dynamics, Sage) ? useful occasionally, not required * Geospatial (Leaflet, PostGIS, coordinate matching) What you get * Total ownership. You'll see the business problem directly and decide how to solve it. * No ticket queue, no sprint theatre, no committee * A stack you'll shape rather than inherit Pay: $57,547.65-$95,176.54 per year Benefits: * Casual dress * On-site parking Work Location: In person
