Job summary

Location: Downtown Toronto (In-office / Hybrid model) The Opportunity I am currently partnering with a heavily funded, rapidly scaling B2B infrastructure startup. They are building a high-volume data ingestion and API platform that serves as the backbone for major enterprise clients. By aggregating and standardizing massive streams of complex IoT and sensor data, their platform enables traditional industries to build real-time analytics and products. They are looking for senior-level backend engineers to join their Toronto hub to help architect the next phase of their growth. The Role This is a high-visibility, high-impact engineering role focused on the core product and API layer. You will be responsible for architecting the distributed systems that process continuous data feeds from hundreds of disparate external sources. Because you are building the foundation that both internal teams and external enterprise clients rely on, you will be deeply involved in product shaping, architectural decision-making, and direct technical consulting with end-users. Key Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end design and deployment of robust, scalable backend services and public-facing APIs in a cloud-native AWS environment. Engineer fault-tolerant integration layers that reliably ingest, normalize, and process unpredictable data from a wide variety of third-party vendors. Develop foundational platform components, including workflow orchestration, authentication, and system monitoring. Interface directly with enterprise clients and partners to map out integration strategies, resolve complex technical roadblocks, and understand user needs. Champion engineering standards and introduce modern, automated tooling to scale development velocity. Requirements What We’re Looking For Scale & Architecture: Extensive experience designing, deploying, and maintaining distributed systems and APIs at a massive scale. You know how to build for resilience and anticipate system failures. Technical Stack: Deep production expertise in TypeScript and Node.js. Integration Expertise: A strong track record of taming messy, complex external APIs and turning them into reliable, clean data pipelines. Customer-Facing Aptitude: You are not looking to hide in the backend. You enjoy being on implementation calls and acting as a technical authority for enterprise customers. Autonomy: You thrive in ambiguous environments, can scope complex projects independently, and have the judgment to balance technical perfection with business velocity. Bonus Qualifications Experience with event-driven or serverless architectures in AWS. Familiarity with modern asynchronous workflow orchestrators. Exposure to JVM languages is a plus for cross-functional collaboration with data platform teams. Benefits Work Environment Predominantly On-Site: The engineering team strongly believes in the velocity of in-person collaboration and operates out of a downtown Toronto office 4 days a week. Comprehensive Benefits: Includes top-tier health/dental coverage, generous wellness and professional development stipends, modern hardware, and 4 weeks of paid time off.
