Job details

About Bree Bree helps Canadians manage short-term cash gaps through interest-free loans. We’re building an alternative to traditional short-term credit: one that is cheaper, faster, easier to understand, and designed to help people when they need money most. More than 800,000 Canadians have already signed up with Bree and we believe we are just scratching the surface. We are in an exciting place where we have product market fit, explosive growth, and a clear path to becoming one of the most important FinTechs in Canada by growing alongside our clients. We are now entering a new stage of growth. We are expanding our product across Canada, adapting to new regulatory requirements, modernizing important parts of our platform, and building a stronger foundation for the next generation of Bree products. Why Join Bree Join us if you want to work on a product that makes a tangible difference in people’s lives. Customers come to Bree when access to money matters, so improving a bank connection, repayment flow, or support experience has a real human impact. You’ll have the ownership to shape those decisions, work closely with the people affected by them, and see what happens after you ship. About the Role We are looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer to own meaningful product work from the initial customer problem through release and follow-up. This is not a role where Product defines every requirement and Engineering takes over at implementation. You will work directly with Product, Design, CX, Operations, and other engineers to understand the problem, shape the solution, make technical decisions, and own the outcome after release. A project might involve designing a new React Native experience, updating eligibility and product rules, introducing new APIs and database models, integrating with a payment provider, building internal tools for CX, and monitoring how the feature performs in production. You will join a small engineering team working on a product with large scale, and with direct consequences for customers’ access to money. Bree has grown quickly, and our codebase reflects that. Some areas are well established; others need careful modernisation. We’re looking for someone who can improve the foundations while continuing to ship reliable product changes for customers. What You'll Do The full lifecycle of a feature, including discovery, technical design, implementation, testing, rollout, monitoring, and follow-up Work across our TypeScript and Node.js serverless backend, including Lambda, API Gateway, and SQS, as well as our React Native application Make practical architectural decisions about service boundaries, data ownership, and when to refactor versus extend an existing system. Instrument what you ship and hold the line on stability without slowing releases. Use tools such as Codex, Cursor and Claude Code to move faster while remaining responsible for correctness, testing, and quality. Mentor other engineers through technical design, code review, and cross-stack collaboration. What We’re Looking For Proven experience shipping customer-facing products end to end, with meaningful technical and architectural ownership. An AI-native development approach: you use tools such as Claude Code and Cursor throughout planning, implementation, debugging, testing, and review, while applying the judgement needed to validate and own the result. Expert-level TypeScript; fluent in Node, React/React Native, REST/GraphQL. Real AWS serverless experience (Lambda, SQS) or equivalent event-driven systems. Track record refactoring or modernizing existing systems, not just greenfield. Pragmatic testing (Jest, RNTL, Detox) wired into CI. Strong product judgment and clear, even-keeled communication. Nice to Have Experience building financial products, payment systems, or other regulated software. Infrastructure as Code experience with Pulumi or Terraform. Mobile release experience, including TestFlight, Google Play, or over-the-air updates. Full-Time Employee Benefits Include: 💰 Top Of The Market Compensation For Top Performers ⚕️ Comprehensive Health, Dental, And Vision Benefits Plan 🖥 $1,500 One-Time Setup + $500/Year Annual Learning & Home-Office Stipend 🧘🏼 $1,500 Annual Wellness Stipend 🥗 Free Lunch Provided In Office Daily + $250/Month Stipend For Your WFH Days ❄️ Fully Remote In The Winter 🚗 $150/Month Commuter Benefits 🚼 Parental Leave 🏝 20 Annual PTO Days + Unlimited Sick Days 🚀 Annual Company Retreat ☕ In-Office Amenities
