Location: Toronto, ON – flexible hybrid, ideally 1 or 2 day per week Type: Full-Time Comp: $170–175K + 10% bonus + RRSP + full benefits A leading financial services organization in the consumer lending and alternative financial services space is hiring a Principal Software Developer to help modernize and scale its core technology platforms. This is a deeply hands-on backend engineering role focused primarily on C# and .NET. You’ll design and build secure, scalable applications, contribute to system architecture, and help establish strong engineering practices across a complex cloud environment. The organization is investing significantly in technology modernization, including cloud platforms, microservices, APIs, data capabilities, and customer-facing digital products. You’ll work closely with engineering, architecture, product, QA, and business stakeholders to deliver systems used by more than one million customers annually across Canada and the US. What You’ll Do Design, build, and maintain scalable backend applications using C# and .NET Lead the technical design and implementation of complex software systems Contribute to application and platform architecture across AWS and Azure Build and modernize microservices, APIs, and enterprise integrations Develop secure systems that protect sensitive financial and customer data Work with SQL and NoSQL databases to support high-volume applications Improve application performance, reliability, maintainability, and scalability Support containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes Strengthen CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices Write clean, efficient, and testable production code Conduct code reviews and establish engineering standards and best practices Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive long-term solutions Mentor senior and intermediate developers while remaining deeply hands-on Partner with product, QA, architecture, and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve platforms and development processes What We’re Looking For 12+ years of professional software development experience Deep hands-on experience with C#, .NET, and backend application development Experience operating at a Principal, Lead, Staff, or Senior technical level Strong system design and software architecture capabilities Experience building microservices, APIs, and distributed applications Strong cloud experience across AWS and/or Azure Experience with relational and NoSQL databases Knowledge of CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices Strong understanding of secure coding, automated testing, and code quality Experience with unit testing frameworks such as NUnit or MSTest Ability to influence technical decisions and communicate with both engineering and business stakeholders Experience mentoring developers and raising engineering standards Background in financial services, fintech, payments, or consumer lending is an asset Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field Why Apply?
