Specific accountabilities

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the proper routine functioning of various network structures and systems, using the existing ticketing application and management consoles. He or she actively participates in expanding knowledge bases for the division by creating and maintaining operational documentation. In conjunction with senior administrators, he or she may be required to take part in key operational and project deployment operations. He or she responds to incidents in a timely manner and resolves them within the scope of his or her ability and authority. He or she works closely with the division's service providers. Main duties include:

  • Administer telecommunications and LAN/WAN network components, including firewalls;
  • Proactively manage services and systems using maintenance and surveillance tools and automation;
  • Work closely with network providers in charge of hardware management;
  • Work closely with providers in charge of hardware maintenance;
  • Address problems encountered with technology services, including diagnostics and restoration of normal operations following an incident, within an ITIL framework;
  • Carry out installation, configuration and customization operations in line with established instructions and ensure post-implementation follow-up;
  • Help draft operational documentation;
  • Ensure environment deployment, availability, stability and performance;
  • Maintain and update network and related components;
  • Document procedures related to the administration of the environment, daily system checks, file purges and routine updates.

Key requirements

  • College diploma or university degree in information technology;
  • Four to six years of work experience in chosen field of expertise;
  • Experience with Cisco, CheckPoint and Citrix Netscaler;
  • CCNA accreditation a definite asset;
  • Experience with WAN acceleration technologies;
  • Knowledge of data warehousing systems (SAN, NAS and backup technologies);
  • Technical writing skills;
  • Availability to work flexible hours; may be called in for deployment operations outside of regular office hours;
  • Team spirit and commitment to continuous quality improvement;
  • Keen information processing skills and ability to see the big picture;
  • Methodical approach to implementing processes;
  • Solid organizational, planning and customer service skills;
  • Efficient priority management;
  • Ability to explain complex information in easy-to- understand terms;

  • Records management skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; self-motivated and self-directed;
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
