Seaspan is seeking a Business Analyst to join the IT team. The Business Analyst is focused on supporting our JD Edwards financial system and possesses a solid understanding of all major business processes and detailed knowledge of all software products used in the company and maintains a continued dialogue with all departments to identify issues where IT systems could be better used, or where new systems are needed. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Focuses on working with the Finance team to ensure the JD Edwards application supports their business needs
  • Liaises across Seaspan teams, throughout the enterprise and external partners, to meet goals; takes ownership for large process-focused projects from concept to execution
  • Maintains a strong understanding of Seaspan applications, products and services, organizational delivery capabilities, and end-to-end processes
  • Documents Seaspan's direction, structure, business processes, and requirements from an IT perspective
  • Helps collect and consolidate information to guide software and hardware product selection; monitors software changes and updates and advises how changes can help to refine business processes
  • Provides support through advanced knowledge of application data structures
  • Conducts product research and selection, develops and executes test plans, and assembles and documents test results
  • Applies advanced knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) to extract ad-hoc reports from enterprise databases as required; develops and supports dynamic ODBC reports with Excel and maintains advanced knowledge of financial reporting software
  • Performs other duties as required

Requirements

  • Significant experience supporting JD Edwards Enterprise One 9.0
  • Degree or diploma in IT, computer science, or similar field
  • Minimum of two years' experience in an IT or application analyst role, or similar
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to plan and organize, prioritize and multi-task effectively
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Sound decision-making skills

Additional desired qualifications

  • CPA certification
  • Project Management Designation or working towards PMP
  • Some experience with IT project management
  • Some accounting experience/training/certification
  • Experience in a ship management company 

Job demands and/or physical requirements

  • Occasional travel to deliver end-user training and/or attend meetings may be required and may be on short notice
  • Sufficient mobility to complete cabling and setup tasks
  • Able to lift 10 kg
